Teen Message

DEAR MICHAEL AND DAWN,
 
TODAY I COME INTO YOUR WEBSITE TO PASS SOMETHING ON TO OUR TEENS IN OUR LITTLE COMMUNITY.  JUST A LITTLE WISDOM FROM AN "OLDER" TEEN-AGER.
 
AS WITH EVERY NEW SCHOOL YEAR, MORE OF YOU 16 YEAR OLDS ARE BECOMING DRIVERS.  YOU HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT WHAT A "PRIVILEGE" THIS IS.  IT IS NOT A "RIGHT" AS SOME THINK. 
 
AS A NEW DRIVER, WE AS PARENTS ARE ALSO EXCITED FOR YOU.  BUT HAVE YOU EVER STOPPED TO THINK AT HOW HORRIFYING FOR US PARENTS IT IS?  AS A TEEN, YOU "THINK" THE WORLD IS YOURS AND "NOTHING" CAN STOP YOU.  YOU ARE VERY WRONG.
 
MY NAME IS MICHELE METZ.  I AM THE MOTHER OF FIVE CHILDREN.  SOME OF YOU MIGHT KNOW MY CHILDREN;  JASON, MELISSA, MACKENZEE, GIDEON AND KATELYNN.
 
ON JUNE 12, 2004, MACKENZEE, 19, WAS KILLED AS A PASSENGER IN A VEHICLE.  SHE WAS JUST A PASSENGER.
 
YOU ONLY HAVE ONE LIFE.  THAT IS ALL MACKENZEE HAD.  IT WAS TAKEN BY SOMEONE ELSE MAKING A REAL BAD CHOICE.  PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THAT CHOICE.  WHEN SOMEONE WANTS TO SEE HOW "BIG" OR "BAD" YOUR CAR OR TRUCK IS, REMEMBER MACKENZEE.  YOU WILL BE THE "BIGGER/BADDER" ONE BY "NOT" SHOWING HIM WHAT YOUR CAR/TRUCK CAN DO.
 
SO WHEN YOU KIDS ARE OUT HAVING FUN, STEP BACK, THINK OF THE CONSEQUENCES.  DEATH IS PERMANANT.  YOU CANNOT BE A "LITTLE" DEAD.  IN DEATH, IT IS ALL OR NOTHING. 
 
DON'T TAKE THE CHANCE THAT YOU ARE "A GOOD DRIVER, BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE".  THAT IS ALL BULL.
 
YOU WILL ALL HAVE MANY CHANCES "IN" LIFE.  BUT, YOU WILL ONLY HAVE ONE CHANCE "AT" LIFE.  
 
LIFE IS SOMETIMES JUST TO SHORT.

Hello. 
 
Thank you both so much for putting my comments up.  I feel like I want to just do something to wake kids up.  My children now know, first hand, what I mean.  I wish the township could have a meeting for teens, or anyone that feels that this horrible experience could not happen to them.  They should have the state highway patrol come out.  Hell, I could tell them.  I know first hand.  I don't want another parent to have to go on with their life in the hell that we live in now.   
 
I have written congressmen, state reps, and anyone else I could think of to help me give Mackenzee a voice.  I owe that to Kenz.  I just want others to understand.  Latourette called back and directed me to Distel (D) and Dann (D).  I have heard nothing.  Oh, Distel called and I wasn't available.  He was supposed to call back.  I guess I don't count or something.  But, I will not give up.  I will find someone to listen.  Mackenzee rose Metz will continue to have a voice. 
This state passed a law that forces us to have auto insurance.  They have no way to enforce the damn law.  Aaron hope, the driver of the vehicle Kenz was killed in had no auto insurance.  This s.o.b. killed a woman 5 years ago, injured another 3 years ago and then killed my daughter.  He got away cheap as far as I am concerned.
 
Crack heads in Cleveland go and do drugs, have babies that die, and the hospital gives them millions just to settle.  My daughter is killed and the state does nothing.  The other driver had minimal insurance.  Once the attorney takes his cut, we pay for Kenzees funeral and headstone, my daughter is worth nothing.
 
Something needs to be done here.  But who wants to listen?  What doors do I beat on next?  Why is my daughter worthless?  If she was one of theirs I think heads would be rolling.  But I am a nobody, my daughter is a nobody.....to them who don't listen or care.
 
Oh, putting Kenz's face behind the comment was so wonderful.
