Harry "Butch"
Spade
Father, Friend, Trustee
This week Austinburg lost one of its most valued and cherished citizens. It was heart warming to see a community of 1400 come together to say thanks for all that he has given to us. This page is a dedication to him, for you, to say a few inspirational words.
On behalf of the Austinburg Country Days Committee we would like to take a moment to honor the memory and the life of Butch Spade who passed away on August 17, 2003. Writes:
His participation and involvement in the Austinburg Community was countless. He was a committee member of Country Days for 20 years, served as president and vise president and was on the Board of Directors for 17 years. He was always willing to help and pitch in whenever and where ever it was needed such as organizing the kids water battles and furnishing fireman's hats to all the participants, setting up Country Days, parade traffic control, driving our Country Maiden ( parade:) in his classy white Corvette, or just organizing and gathering the necessary equipment that was required to make Austinburg Country Days a successful and joyous yearly event.
However, his involvement did not end their. He was a Austinburg Trustee for 14 years, a member of the Austinburg United Church of Christ and served as a church trustee, a member of Austinburg Grange, a little League coach and on the Little League board, a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Austinburg Volunteer Fire Department since 1981.
Butch was also active in many county groups in addition to many community activities: he served on the Northwest Ambulance District Board for 5 years, the 911 Advisory Committee, Ashtabula County Township Association, the Ohio Township Association, Ashtabula County Fireman's Association, Harpersfield Volunteer Fire Department for 8 years and served in the National Guard.
Butch never had to be recognized for all he did, and often people were unaware of how much he was involved in. However, he always continued to do all he could for the benefit of the community. Butch's selfless dedication to his family and community made him the man we all new, respected and loved. His loyalty and service to the Austinburg Community will long be remembered.
We would like to take this opportunity to remember Butch and our Country Days president, Mary Ann Wilms, will present a plaque to his wife Janie, and children Jeff & Jessica, Shaun, Chadd and Shana, and Granddaughter Mardi.
He will be sadly
missed, but never forgotten.
