Austinburg Twp - Fiscal Officer Vote For Not More Than 1 (WITH 2 OF 2
PRECINCTS COUNTED)
BARBARA SCHAAB. . . . . . . . . 450 70.75
GARY W. WELCH . . . . . . . . . 186 29.25
Barb has been our financial officer for over 8
years. This position entails maintaining and keeping
financial records
minute of the meetings and correspondence. She does not take any nonsense
from Janie Spade and Lynn Frank who,
it seams wants to spend us into oblivion. Could be that both of them are
taking their "Q" from Whitmire.
Mrs. Schaab needs to be supported 100%.
The following is a message from Barbara Schaab
Married to Michael for 28 years and have three children and one grandson.
Lives in Austinburg, 23 years.
Member Austinburg Country Days Committee 22 years
Member Austinburg Garden Club
Prior to taking office, I was a bookkeeper
for Austinburg Feed Mill.
My husband and I own and operate
Copper Mechanical, LLC. a certified backflow device testing company.
In addition we own and operate a farm, raising beef and hogs, as well as
various produce and hay. I maintain all bookkeeping
and accounting records for both operations.
I have held the position of Township
Fiscal Officer for 8 years, and have maintained an unblemished citation free
record during
three state audits. I have also completed and been awarded the
certificates for Public Funds Investment Management training from
the
State of Ohio Treasurer's office four years in a row.
My business experience and
Fiscal training has given me the confidence to evaluate short and
long term Township financial
expenditures. Your continuing support will allow me to continue to
maintain this financial accountability.
To My Fellow Residents, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Barbara Schaab, and I am
running for re-election as Austinburg Township Fiscal Officer. I have held
this office for eight years. My husband Michael and I have lived in Austinburg for 23 years. We raised
our three children here and we have one grandson. I have been active on the
Austinburg Country Days committee for 22 years. I am a member of Austinburg
Garden Club, member and past president of the Ashtabula Elk’s Association,
member of Partnership for Education in Ashtabula County, and a past board
member of Ohio Farm Bureau. I am a member of the Ohio Township Association,
Ashtabula County Township Association, and I am a Notary Public. My husband
and I own and operate a farm here in Austinburg, raising beef and hogs,
produce, and hay. I am responsible for the bookkeeping and accounting of our
farm operation. My full time job though is serving as your Fiscal Officer. This position is
often described as part time, but many weeks necessitate 30 plus hours. The
job has become quite involved over the years I have served and is always
evolving. Let me tell you just some of the duties I perform as Fiscal Officer.
I take care of all financial aspects of the township. Austinburg has an
approximate annual budget of 1.2 million dollars. I handle all expenditures,
and revenues, and maintain any and all investments. I prepare two budgets per
year, and prepare the financial statement at the end of each fiscal year which
is then filed with the Auditor of State for review. I perform all payroll
duties for all township employees and elected officials, including tax
deposits and deductions, as well as administering the health insurance plan. I
maintain all township records. I attend all trustee meetings and transcribe
the minutes. I also volunteer as acting secretary for the Austinburg Zoning
Board of Appeals, attending their meetings and transcribing the minutes. I
type and record all cemetery deeds and handle Cemetery Bequest funds. It is my
responsibility to track all lighting districts, and any tax levies the
township has in place. I complete month end reports, and file quarterly tax
reports with the state. Currently I am working on the Local Update of Census Addresses. This
project will update Census Dept. addresses in the township for the 2010
census. I will be working along with the Ashtabula County Planning Commission
on this task. A proper count will ensure that Austinburg will qualify for
population based funding sources if needed. In closing, I am proud to say that I have had three clean state audits
since taking office in 2000, receiving no material findings. I have also
participated, and have been certified for the past four years in a row, in
Public Funds Investment Management Training through the State of Ohio
Treasurer’s office. As always, I am more than willing to answer any questions you may have
regarding the township. Please feel free to contact me at home, 275-3042 or
office, 275-1378. I truly enjoy the work I do as your Fiscal Officer, and would very much
like to continue to serve. Please allow me to maintain the integrity and
financial accountability you have come to expect. I ask for your support, and
your vote, on November 6. Sincerely,
Barbara Schaab

Gary Welch
The following is Mr. Welch's Campaign Flyer that is being handed out.
Hello!
My name is Gary Welch and I
would like to tell you a little about myself. I have been married
for 31 years. My wife name is Kathy and we have three son's ( Brian,
Joshua and Mathew).
My family and I have lived in Ashtabula County for over 25 years and we
have lived in
Austinburg for more than 8 years. I am an EMT-Parametic for Northwest
Ambulance District.
I would be honored to serve you as your Austinburg Township Fiscal Officer.
Thank You Very Much,
Gazette Interview
October 24, 2007
Welch said he would bring fresh
ideas to this position. His priorities include
raising public awareness about Austinburg Township, including its assets,
history and resources. Welch wants to promote tourism in the area.
Last I checked a fiscal officer
is responsible for the finances?
Sounds like he is running for Trustee!
Actually I would prefer Mr. Welch run for trustee instead of fiscal officer.
Anything is better than the clown act we currently have.
The Gazette
Welch considered running for trustee, but
because of his position with
NAD Northeast Ambulance District, it would be a conflict of interest.
From what I understand Janie Spade signs his pay check at NAD???
Could it be that Janie Spade is is a NAD board member? mmmmmmm
Motive
Please remember that the information presented is only to keep you informed or encouraging you to research your best qualified candidate(s).
I am not a guru as to who is the best for the job but only know that experience and motive are judgment indicators.
Mr. Welch is an
EMT-Parametic employee and is a friend of
Janie Spade and Lynn Frank. From what we know Mr. Welch has
"ZERO" financial experience. What I can only surmise is that he
will be the puppet of Spade and Frank ( if she is re-elected),
and therefore would not be required to know anything more that what they tell
him. I could be wrong but only votes and time will tell.
We would also welcome his input as to his campaign platform and why he is best qualified
to be responsible for our Townships finances.
As a side note: ............at least Mr. Welch is offering his services to the Community for this we give him kudos!
This is what America is all about people!!
Now go out and VOTE!!
